Residential Care – Direct Support
Professional (DSP) – This competency based course prepares
students for entry-level positions working in the California
development disability services delivery system. This includes
working with people of all ages with mental retardation, cerebral
palsy, epilepsy or autism in residential settings who require
supervision for daily living activities. This course includes
understanding the role of the DSP, overview of the delivery
system, psychosocial development of the resident, teaching
skills, conflict resolutions, health wellness and community
resources. Integrated throughout the course are career preparation
standards.
